Sabrina is a mid-life woman, first-generation Canadian, racialized Black of African Caribbean ancestry. She brings both personal and professional experience into the therapy space, creating an environment that embraces all of your intersectionalities. She has 20 years of experience in social service settings both in direct care and management, supervising social workers.
Over the years, Sabrina has helped adults, children, youth and families in crisis in both big city and rural communities. She has helped clients navigate trauma (acute, chronic, complex, and developmental), mental health, intimate partner violence, survivors of human trafficking, substance misuse, housing/food scarcities, grief and loss, abuse, neglect, and racism.
In her practice in Mississauga, Ontario, she centers supporting women through midlife – perimenopause and menopause – whether it’s anxiety, mood swings, sadness, fatigue, irritability, brain fog, difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, grief/loss of identity, hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, joint pains, sexual concerns and urogenital problems. These psychological and emotional shifts impacting on relationships with partners/spouses, children, and at work. Women may be at the peak of their careers where demands and life stressors are at their all time high. They may have children living at home or leaving home, and they may be caring for aging parents with dementia.
The generation that Sabrina works with feel compelled to do everything. Life is compressed for them and confusing. Working with a Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist can provide meaningful support, practical tools, and a grounded, compassionate, and deeply validating space for them during this significant life phase.
Sabrina specializes in supporting persons experiencing the following: Distressing Symptoms associated with Perimenopause/Menopause, Caregiving for Aging Parents, Caring for People Living with Dementia, Caregiver Burden, Raising their Own Children, All While Often Managing Careers and their Own Households (Sandwich Generation), Managing Health Anxiety, Life Stages, Changes and Transitions, Stress Management, Work Stress, Critical Work Incident(s), Trauma, Racial Harm & Trauma, Navigating Relationship Issues (Personal & Professional), Nervous System Regulation, Anxiety, and Challenges Related to Grief and Loss.
Sabrina uses an integrative approach that draws from evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Strength-Based Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Family & Eco-Systems, Solution-Focused Therapy, Person-Centred Approach, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Compassion Focused Therapy, and Culturally Affirming, Trauma-Informed, Faith-Based Perspectives, and Somatic Practices. She also supports faith-based counselling for clients who wish to bring their faith or spirituality into therapy. Sabrina supports rebalancing the body through nervous system regulation and prioritizing connecting to calm influences to support co-regulation. Once the body is supported she focuses on rebalancing the mind – working with thoughts and interpretations using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Strategies.
Her goal is to create a warm, safe, and attuned environment where clients feel supported, understood, and can work together towards better managing distressing symptoms, strengthening relationship with self and others, and simply feel more grounded day-to-day.
